QU College of Health Sciences celebrates its remarkable achievements on CHS Day

Qatar University (QU) College of Health Sciences (CHS) recently held the CHS Day to celebrate its remarkable achievements for the last academic year 2017-2018, with many of its partners, students and faculty members.

The ceremony was attended by Qatar University’s President Dr Hassan Rashid Al-Derham, as well as several QU Vice Presidents and Deans of QU Health Colleges, including CHS Dean and Director of the QU Biomedical Research Center (BRC) Prof. Asma Al-Thani. The celebration was also attended by CHS faculty, students, as well as representatives of the college’s partners and several Qatari public and social media figures.

Certificates of appreciation were distributed with CHS partners to 195 clinical preceptors and field practice supervisors of three CHS programs, namely, biomedical science, human nutrition and public health. Prof. Al-Thani thanked the valued partners from Aspetar, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the Ministry of Public Health, Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), Qatar Foundation (QF) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) for their generous contributions in supporting the students during their practical training.

The event also included a special ceremony where 141 students were honored for being part of the Dean’s List in the past academic year. Additionally, 83 students from biomedical science, human nutrition and public health programs took part in a white coat ceremony which signifies and celebrates the entering of their first stage of clinical practice to their respective degrees. The college also celebrated the successful passing of 15 Biomedical Sciences graduates of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC) exam.

QU President Dr Hassan Al-Derham commended QU Health and CHS for their remarkable achievements that established a standardized curriculum with great aspirations to keep in pace with the latest development in health education as offered by the most prestigious institutions worldwide. An achievement that was done mostly due to the hard work and persistence of its dedicated faculty and administration. Moreover, Dr Al-Derham affirmed that QU is devoted to modernization and curriculum development in order to ensure a high international standing of the university by virtue of its significant contribution to both international and national scientific communities.

Addressing the distinguished attendees of this event, the Dean of CHS Dr Asma Al-Thani elaborated on the latest achievements of the college during the past year saying, “Today we celebrate and appreciate the amazing achievements of our faculty and students, whether in theoretical or clinical practice. I also thank our valued preceptors and supervisors for their efforts and support of our students during the 2018-2019 academic year. It was a year full of incredible accomplishments.”

She added, “Finally, I would like to thank all CHS faculty for their academic excellence, and their publication of over 170 scientific articles during the past academic year in prestigious international journals.”

The ceremony concluded with an honorary recognition of distinguished CHS faculty members for their research and teaching excellence. This honorary ceremony also included six students from the Empower Generations Consortium for National Capacities in Life Sciences, three of whom won the Science Innovation award and the other three have successfully completed their internship at Sidra Medicine.
