    Minister of Energy & Industry to speak at GPC Gas Processing Symposium

    The 4th International Gas Processing Symposium will be held on October 26-27 on the theme Natural Gas and World’s Energy Mix.

     

    The announcement was made at a press conference on October 15 in which details of the symposium were outlined by CENG Dean Dr Rashid Alammari,GPC Director Dr Mohammed Al Marri, QP PR Officer Mr Mohammed Rashid AL Khater, Exxonmobil Qatar Inc. Vice President of Public & Government Affairs Mr Saleh Al Mana, RasGas Head of Media, Publications and Communications Mr Fahad Al Buenain, and Oryx GTL DOT Project Director Mr Rashid Al Fehaidi.

     

    The symposium which is organized every two years by the Gas Processing Center (GPC) and its consortium members will be held under the patronage of Qatar Minister of Energy and Industry H.E. Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, and sponsored by QP, ExxonMobil, Rasgas, QAFAC, Oryx GTL and Dolphin Energy.  

     

    QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad will join Minister Al-Sada among the list of invited speakers who include Rasgas CEO Mr Hamad Rashid Al-Mohannadi, ExxonMobil Qatar Inc. President and General Manager Mr Bart Cahir, Dolphin Energy General Manager Mr Adel Ahmed Albuainain, ORYX GTL CEO Mr Abdul Rahman Al-Suwaidi, and QAFAC General Manager Mr Nasser Jeham Al-Kuwari.

     

    Over 200 delegates from academic, government and industry organizations are expected to attend the event that will feature a series of discussion and technical sessions, workshops and training seminars led by expert presenters. The program will also include an exhibition by QU College of Arts and Sciences, QU Environmental Studies Center, QP, QAPCO, Dolphin Energy, Oryx GTL, ExxonMobil, and QAFAC.

     

    Dr Alammari explained that the symposium’s theme was in recognition of Qatar’s position as one of the leading LNG and GTL exporters in the world, and the country’s leadership in committing to sustainability, and diversifying the natural gas market.  “The symposium is one of our most important events and is an invaluable opportunity to bring together key academics and industry experts to address the various challenges related to accessing, utilizing and processing natural gas”, he said.

     

    He further noted that the event will add considerable value to the College of Engineering’s research efforts as well as highlight the strong relationships that QU continues to build with organizations around the world.

     

    Mr Al Khater said that the symposium’s theme is highly relevant as it emphasizes the ever-growing contribution of conventional and unconventional gas resources in helping meet the world’s rising energy requirements. “It also highlights the key role played by the State of Qatar in its enviable position as the world’s No. 1 producer and exporter of liquefied natural gas and the global capital of gas-to-liquids products. QP’s strong support to industry events, such as this symposium, is in line with our commitment to the continued growth of the global oil and gas industry”, he added.

     

    Mr Al Mana said:  “At ExxonMobil Qatar, we are committed to supporting the Gas Processing Center and Qatar University in an effort to help develop the next generation of scientists and engineers in Qatar.  The symposium supports this goal, and also complements our commitment to fulfilling the objectives of Qatar National Vision towards achieving a brighter and more prosperous future for Qatar and its people”.

    Commenting on Dolphin Energy’s sponsorship of the event, Mr Albuainain said: “We take enormous pride in our participation and look forward to making a valued contribution to the event.  Since its inception, the symposium has developed a strong reputation by bringing together industry and academia to discuss issues and explore solutions to issues faced by the gas processing industry.     Mr Al Fehaidi said “As a proud main sponsor of this event, ORYX GTL recognizes the importance of the symposium as a platform for knowledge-sharing among the major stakeholders of the gas industry and for creating an opportunity to discuss key matters of interest pertaining to accessing, utilizing and processing of natural gas. We therefore, continuously support national efforts in providing opportunities where stakeholders are able to engage with each other”. ORYX GTL is also the sponsor of the e-poster session and will present a paper entitled ORYX GTL – Laying foundations for the future of GTL.

     

    QAFAC CEO Mr Nasser Jeham Al-Kuwari said that he valued the efforts Qatar University is making to ensure the success of such scientific symposiums which will ultimately contribute to enhancing the GPC’s research work.
