Research Planning and Development
The Research Planning & Development (RPD) Departement at Qatar University (QU) engages in research strategic planning initiatives, development and implementation and serves as the liaison office of the university in building and coordinating the relationship between industry and Qatar University. The Office is also responsible for developing operating procedures, resources, and tracking compliance with the ethical requirements and maintenance of quality and integrity of the research and operations conducted at QU. It deals with innovation, intellectual property, commercialization, and entrepreneurship issues and drives the active participation of academics and researchers in the current transformation initiatives of Qatar University to become a leading research-based university.
Our mission is to facilitate performance enhancement and quality improvement in Qatar University’s strategic and academic planning, development, and operations.
We support institutional decision-making, planning, and policy development in the area of research by collecting, integrating, and analyzing institutional and external data. The office ultimately leads and supports university-wide research planning processes, including strategic, academic, operational and resource planning. We drive the collection of stakeholders' feedback to support institutional quality assurance and development in teaching and learning.

Mission
To lead excellence in research at QU by enforcing ethical compliance, high-quality practices, integrated research policies and encouraging innovation.
Main Functions
- Overseeing and advising on the operations and functions of research ethics pertaining to the use of human subjects, experimental animals, and biohazard materials.
- Promoting awareness of students and faculty members regarding the integrity of research, including ideas ownership, confidentiality, plagiarism and respect of contractual agreements.
- Establishing and reviewing policies related to the safety of laboratory research that involves the use of biohazards, by overseeing and operating the Qatar University Institutional Bio-safety committee (QU-IBC).
- Perform specialized review of research activities to ensure their conformity with the policies and regulations of the State of Qatar and Ministry of Public Health (MOPH).
